Anti-phishing

Phishing is the type of fraud, the goal of which is to receive access to user information (card details, data for log-in to Raiffeisen Online, one-time code from SMS, financial phone number, password) for its further use with malicious intent.

Phishing can be implemented via:

  • email – sending letters with links to forged websites;
  • messages in social networks;
  • SMS messages;
  • voice phishing – calls on the Bank’s behalf
Security from Fraud #8 | Raiffeisen Bank Aval

Signs of phishing messages

1) Alarming nature of the message, e.g. you are informed that your accounts are blocked and the funds are in danger

2) You are urged to perform an action faster: to follow the link, to change the password to Raiffeisen Online in order to prevent transaction blocking, etc.

3) Information on additional payments from the Bank or other organizations without confirmation on official websites

4) Information on unique offers for you: additional payments of funds, extraordinarily high discount for the product

5) Request for downloading of additional applications for remote access to your device

Signs of phishing websites

1) Visual similarity with the original, however, a wrong domain name – fraudsters may register the sites on the domains similar to the original one. For example, instead of “raiffeisen.ua” you can see the address “raiffeisen_bank.ua”, “railleisen.ua”.

2) Absence of SSL certificate – the website address must start with https:// on a mandatory basis. If the website link starts with “http://”, this is a reason to doubt whether the page is original.

3) Legitimate websites mask the entering of card details; phishing resources do not mask that as usual.

4) After card details are entered, a transaction failure occurs, the funds are withdrawn, but payment is not made.

Have you received a suspicious message from the Bank?

The Bank shall under no circumstances send emails with a request for the password, login, following via the specified email address, installing additional software.

Telephone fraud

There is an often used scheme when fraudsters disguised as the bank employees make calls and:

  • inform you that your card may be blocked
  • telling you that you received funds in error and they must be returned, otherwise the card will be blocked
  • inquire the information about your account status and ask you for one-time passwords from an SMS

You may not under any circumstances provide

  • the fraudsters with card details,
  • data for log-in to Raiffeisen Online (login and password)!

Finish communication and call the Bank to provide the information about a fraud.

Bank’s contact details

Has information been disclosed?

  1. Block the card urgently via Raiffeisen Online or via the Call Center
  2. Change the password for log-in to the system if the login and/or password were disclosed

All the sms-messages from the bank are received from the registered alpha-name Raiffeisen exclusively

MAKE PURCHASES SECURELY

  1. The website on which you enter the card number must start with https://. Make sure that the website is protected by payment systems - Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode.
  2. Make a separate card account for settlements on the Internet on which you only store the amount of funds necessary for the purchase or set up the limits for purchases via Raiffeisen online.
  3. Connect SMS notification on transactions and enable 3D Secure -
  4. Do not spread the details of your financial phone number linked to the card on the Internet
  5. If you sell a product, the buyer should only know the card number – 16 digits
  6. Do not make advance payment if you do not fully trust the seller. You had better choose the option of payment after the product is received.
  7. Do not enter your card PIN for payment on the Internet. In order to pay for your purchase, it’s sufficient to enter the card number, its validity period, CVV2/CVC code and one-time password.

Use of ATMs

  • Before using an ATM visually inspect it for availability of external objects.
  • Cover the keyboard with your hand when you enter the PIN or hold your both hands on the keyboard, so that it is not clear what buttons you press.
  • If the ATM did not disburse the funds to you (while your heard the sound of banknote counting, received an SMS notification on withdrawal), do not move away from the ATM and call the Bank.

SIM card protection

Fraudsters may try to access your phone number in order to use it for access to online banking later.

Security from Fraud #20 | Raiffeisen Bank Aval
Security from Fraud #21 | Raiffeisen Bank Aval
  • Prohibit or restrict the remote SIM card replacement capability with the operator
  • Link the SIM card to the passport – this will make the remote card re-issuance process much more difficult
  • Do not make your financial phone number publicly accessible, do not use it for online shopping and do not make it known to strangers

Most often, for card reissuance you must provide the operator with the latest phone numbers you made calls to, your account balance or a code from the sms message. If a stranger requests this data from you, end the talk.

If someone calls you and introduces himself as your mobile operator, you had better call the operator at the official phone number yourself.
