Raiffeisen Bank Joins the UN Global Compact Ukraine
Raiffeisen Bank has officially joined the UN Global Compact — the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. By doing so, the bank is committed to upholding the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor relations, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.
This membership underscores the bank’s leadership in promoting a sustainable financial sector in Ukraine. Raiffeisen Bank actively integrates ESG principles into its operations, with a focus on funding initiatives related to food security, renewable energy, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
Since 2017, the bank has been a strong advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals, implementing numerous projects in collaboration with government bodies, civil society organizations, and foundations. Key areas of focus include environmental initiatives, social programs, financial literacy development, and fostering an inclusive environment.
Tetiana Sakharuk, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Ukraine, congratulated Raiffeisen Bank on its commitment to the initiative, emphasizing the crucial role of the financial sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. She highlighted that the bank’s experience and expertise will contribute to advancing responsible business practices in Ukraine and further strengthen its positive impact on economic, social, and environmental progress.
Larisa Bondareva, Deputy Chairwoman of the Management Board at Raiffeisen Bank, stated:
«Joining the UN Global Compact Ukraine Is a key milestone in advancing our ESG strategy. We are expanding our portfolio of ‘green’ investments, which grew by 75 % last year, reaching UAH 2.3 billion. Our priorities include the ecological modernization of the economy, as well as addressing the social dimension — supporting our clients, developing financial literacy, and fostering equal opportunities. Being part of the UN Global Compact Ukraine enables us to collaborate with other sustainability leaders and scale up positive changes.»
The bank is focusing its efforts on sustainable development, including supporting sustainable agriculture, promoting the transition to renewable energy sources, retrofitting branches to ensure accessibility, and participating in charitable projects.
