Raiffeisen Bank – the NBU partner in the payment security educational initiative #ShahrayGoodbye

Raiffeisen Bank, jointly with the National Bank of Ukraine, held an event for students dedicated to payment security issues within the information campaign #ShahrayGoodbye. Andrii Pyshnyi, the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, opened the event.

“Traditionally every year the National Bank organizes Payment Security Month that is focused on training of young people. Because, as our research shows, the most often the victims of payment fraud are young people aged from 18 to 29 as the most active category of digital services users.

The task of each of us in the digital world – to develop a certain “digital hygiene”. I earnestly hope that all the students who received today new knowledge, will transmit it to their family and friend. And the NBU from its side will continue to encourage more and more young people to enhance the level of their financial literacy”, — underlined the NBU Governor.

The agenda of the event for students comprised of educational lectures, interactive quizzes and team competition “Brain-ring on payment security issues. Halloween Edition”. About 70 students representing 7 Kyiv higher education institutions took part in the event.

Yuliya Starokozheva, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Raiffeisen Bank, expressed gratitude to the NBU for the systemic approach to financial security of the country and for the reliable partnership in educational initiatives. She emphasized that in the war time the responsibility of the business lies in everyday actions: support of the citizens, schools, universities and health care institutions. Investments in education and a safe environment – it is a mission. That is why for Raif #ShahrayGoodbye initiative is not a one-time campaign, but an element of the common security ecosystem that the Bank creates jointly with the State: from practical education and issuing materials for the communities to the continuous presence in the dialogue with the youth.

Yuliya underlined that Raif helps the education to catch up with speed of the changes, creates for students real paths for entering the profession via internships Raif Campus and Practicum, fosters partnerships with the universities and supports student communities. Within #ShahrayGoodbye initiative, the Bank systemically extends advice on payment security to the customers around the whole country and helps the State and educational institutions in creating and distributing educational materials  — where the everyday prevention of fraud is ensured. “Protecting oneself and one’s family and friends – is also leadership. Everyday reasoned decisions contribute to forming the security culture around us”, — says Yuliya.

Yevhen Baliutov, information security director of Raiffeisen Bank, explained how social engineering, deepfake and “urgency” of communications push the users to make mistakes and emphasized: countering fraud is not only about technologies, but also about changing the behavior. The most efficient approach – to foster “digital immunity” at the level of the whole ecosystem: from basic hygiene rules (verification of sources, channels and links) to standardized response processes and training for youth and business.

Raiffeisen Bank consistently scales RASP (Raiffeisen Awareness Security Program), issues training material with public access, holds regular webinars for the customers and partners, supports university programs and internships.

Kateryna Mashchenko, expert for staff training on cybersecurity, delivered a practical lecture on the online payments’ security, financial data protection and countering fraud. The NBU and Cyberpolice experts also participated in the educational section.

By the results of “Brain-ring” three winners out of ten teams were defined. Ruslana Okrug, head of information protection issues of Raif, drew the conclusions of the event and distributed the presents to the winners.

Raiffeisen Bank will continue supporting the initiates that form the culture of safe payments and responsible use of digital services and will further extend the partnerships with the universities and State institutions in order to strengthen “digital immunity” of Ukrainians and to mitigate the payment fraud risks.

We would like to express our appreciation to the National Bank of Ukraine team for the fruitful cooperation and our joint work on enhancement of financial security.
