The NBU has implemented a package of measures to ease foreign exchange restrictions

The National Bank of Ukraine is implementing a package of measures to ease foreign exchange restrictions, which expands opportunities for Ukrainians both in Ukraine and abroad, supports Ukrainian businesses, and creates additional investment opportunities.

Why Is the NBU Easing Foreign Exchange Restrictions?

The update to foreign exchange regulations was made possible by sustained macroeconomic stability, a resilient foreign exchange market, and high levels of international reserves. According to the regulator’s assessment, the liberalization does not pose a threat to the financial system, as it has been factored into macroeconomic forecasts. For the average Ukrainian and entrepreneur, this means higher spending limits, fewer bureaucratic hurdles when paying for housing or goods abroad, a wider range of investment instruments, and more flexible terms for doing business.
For Individuals:

  • Purchase of non-cash foreign currency and investments (up to 200,000 UAH/month): Previously: up to 50,000 UAH/month. Now: the limit has increased fourfold—to 200,000 UAH per calendar month.
  • Payments for goods, services, and housing rentals abroad using a hryvnia card: Previously: up to 100,000 UAH per month. Now: the limit has been increased to the equivalent of 200,000 UAH per calendar month.
  • Payments for accommodation and rent abroad from foreign currency accounts (up to 500,000 UAH/month): The current limit of 500,000 UAH per month applies to foreign currency cards for paying for hotels and housing rentals.
  • Payment for goods, work, and services using your own foreign currency funds via SWIFT transfer: Within a limit equivalent to 200,000 UAH per month in total from all of the customer’s foreign currency accounts.
  • Cash Withdrawals in Ukraine and Abroad: The limit on cash withdrawals of foreign currency from personal foreign currency accounts has been increased from 100,000 UAH to 200,000 UAH equivalent per day.
  • Withdrawing cash hryvnia (no changes): In Ukraine—up to 100,000 UAH per day per account. Abroad—up to 12,500 UAH per 7 calendar days (Mon–Sun).

For sole proprietors and legal entities:

  • Corporate (business) hryvnia cards and checking accounts in Ukraine: The limit is increasing to 200,000 UAH per day per account (previously 100,000 UAH). Cash withdrawals for the payment of salaries, advances, sick pay, and social benefits are made without any amount restrictions.
  • Corporate (business) hryvnia cards abroad: Cash withdrawals: increased to 140,000 UAH/month (previously 17,500 UAH/week). Non-cash transactions: increased to 400,000 UAH/month (instead of 150,000 UAH). For carriers—the limit has been increased to $20,000 per card.
  • Corporate (business) foreign currency cards abroad: The limit has been increased from 100,000 UAH to 200,000 UAH equivalent per day per account.
