Clean Drinking Water for the People of Mykolaiv from Raiffeisen Bank
The full-scale war involves the daily struggle of the Ukrainian people, intense combat on the front lines, and relentless air attacks by the aggressor country, leading to humanitarian catastrophes, power outages, and loss of access to drinking water.
Since mid-April 2022, Mykolaiv, the second-largest regional center in southern Ukraine, has been without centralized drinking water supply. The tap water is only suitable for technical use due to damage to the water pipeline, which stretches over 70 km from the Dnipro River. For over 40 years, Mykolaiv received its drinking water through this pipeline.
Raiffeisen Bank, as a responsible Ukrainian business, along with city authorities and charitable foundations, did not stand aside and took necessary measures to provide Mykolaiv residents with water. Raiffeisen allocated over 800,000 UAH to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water for the population of Mykolaiv. These funds will allow for the maintenance of 12 water complexes, installed last year on the premises of Mykolaiv schools, for a year.
On July 4, 2024, representatives of the city authorities, Raiffeisen Bank Ukraine, and Mykolaiv education met at Lyceum No. 55 to ceremonially open one of the many water complexes at Lyceum No. 55 in Mykolaiv. The opening was attended by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych, Advisor to the Head of Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration on Education Andriy Zinchenko, Director of Retail Business for the Southeast Region of Raiffeisen Bank Artem Nidzelskyi, Head of Mykolaiv Education Department Hanna Lychko, Director of Mykolaiv Lyceum No. 55 Dmytro Vasylykov, and representatives of NGO "My Direction" - Yuriy Trusov and Volodymyr Kushnir.
"Mykolaiv has been living without drinking water supply for over two years due to the actions of the Russian aggressor. Throughout this time, the city authorities have been addressing this issue, including establishing points for free distribution of purified water so that Mykolaiv residents can collect water for their needs. Equally important is the participation of international organizations and businesses that are concerned about the problem and genuinely want to help Mykolaiv and its residents. I am particularly grateful to Raiffeisen Bank for this support of the city!" said Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych.
"In 2024, humanity has already reached Mars, but on Earth, we are still fighting for uninterrupted access to drinking water. It is important to us that both adults and children, especially in times of crisis, have 24/7 access to clean water. We have invested and will continue to invest in projects that change people's lives for the better. Raiffeisen Bank proudly supports the people of Ukraine in difficult times. We believe that together we can create a better future for our country," confidently states Artem Nidzelskyi, Director of Retail Business for the Southeast Region of Raiffeisen Bank.
The annual maintenance cost of one water complex is about 67,000 UAH, which includes:
- Inspection, cleaning, and replacement of filters;
- Replacement of membranes, UV lamps, and other water dispenser elements;
- Disinfection of tanks;
- Water quality research and reagent level control.
Raiffeisen Bank's financial support will cover all these expenses.
The initiative was implemented in collaboration with Raiffeisen Bank, Stepic CEE Charity Foundation, NGO "My Direction" with the assistance of Mykolaiv city authorities.
Together we are strong. Together with Ukraine.
