Harvest start: Ukraine is setting a new grain record

In Ukraine, field harvesting began. The agricultural sector is already forecasting new record highs.

As of the end of June, farmers threshed 400 thousand tons of grain on an area of 130 thousand hectares. Grain harvesting, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, began in six regions of Ukraine. The average yield is expected to reach 30.3 t / ha. The farmers began to collect winter wheat (49 thousand tons), barley (341 thousand tons) and peas (14 thousand tons), and winter rape harvesting is also beginning (6 thousand tons have already been threshed).

According to the forecasts of the International Grains Council, the volume of wheat production in Ukraine will increase by 10% and amount to 27.5 million tons. Recent rains will increase production in 2019-2020. by 2% - up to 27.2 million tons, to an almost record high level.
Precipitation will support corn production at last year's level of 32 million tons. But with stable areas and average yields, corn production may also decline to 29.3 million tons. Also, lower prices can affect production decline.

This year sunflower productivity was well influenced by weather conditions - the crop developed at an accelerated pace. According to analysts of APK-Inform, the conditions for the formation of a sunflower crop were estimated as 85-100% of the optimal. Gross harvest will be up to 13.5 million tons, and the crop will ripen earlier two weeks.

At the same time, buckwheat harvest this season may be reduced to a historical minimum - by 45% from last year. A low level of sowing on 55 thousand ha is unlikely to cover the needs of the domestic market, so we can expect an increase in imports of buckwheat.

There has been no precipitation in the northern and central regions of Ukraine for more than two weeks, which negatively affects the crops of borsch set vegetables. At the same time, air temperatures break historical records, including at night, which leads to problems with the development of potatoes, beets, carrots and cabbage.

According to East-Fruit analysts, the area under vegetables was sharply increased in 2019. If the climatic conditions are close to normal, then it will be difficult to avoid the overproduction of these crops.
