How to Overcome PTSD – A World-Class Expert Shared Her Insights at Trainings Organized by Raiffeisen Bank and GLOBSEC

The full-scale war in Ukraine has led to a significant increase in cases of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Today, this condition affects not only military personnel but also civilians who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events.

To help Ukrainian professionals and citizens better understand the nature of trauma, a four-day training was held in Kyiv, focused on the consequences of PTSD and modern treatment methods. The event was organized by Raiffeisen Bank in partnership with the international think tank GLOBSEC.

The key speaker of the event was Mandy Bostwick — a world-renowned British psychotherapist and expert in the neurobiological approach to PTSD treatment, who came to Ukraine at the invitation of the organizers.

"Together with GLOBSEC, we launched training sessions for medical professionals on modern PTSD treatment techniques. We will continue to support projects aimed at restoring Ukrainians’ health. This issue requires coordinated efforts from businesses, the government, international partners, and experts — only by combining resources can we provide systemic support to society," — commented Oleksandr Pysaruk, CEO of Raiffeisen Bank Ukraine.

Traditional Methods Don’t Always Work: How the Neurobiological Approach Is Transforming PTSD Treatment

Classical PTSD treatment methods — including psychotherapy and medication — often prove insufficient, especially when the trauma is deeply rooted in neurobiology. Research by Ukrainian scientists shows that only up to 40% of patients fully recover using traditional approaches.

That’s why a new treatment methodology — the neurobiological approach — is gaining popularity worldwide. It views trauma as a disruption in brain functioning, whereas traditional methods typically focus on thoughts and emotions.

More on this cutting-edge scientific approach and how it’s already helping Ukrainians can be found in Ukrainska Pravda’s coverage:

"I’ve been visiting Ukraine for three years, talking to professionals and people who have lived through trauma. War affects both civilians and soldiers in similar ways — the brain doesn’t distinguish where the threat happened. Trauma is a neurophysiological reaction. A person doesn’t control it — in fact, it’s the trauma that starts controlling the person,"— shared Mandy Bostwick.

This method is showing promising results: 50–70% of patients who undergo such treatment report significant symptom reduction or even full remission of the diagnosis.
